In a matter of days, the second round of presidential elections will take place in Brazil, in which one of the candidates, Jair Bolsonaro, promotes the praising of torture and dictatorship, as well as discrimination against women and disdain for the poor, representing a culture of hate. Against him, UNPO and MEPs Marisa Matias (GUE/NGL); Xavier Benito Ziluaga (GUE/NGL); Julie Ward (S&D); Ramon Tremosa I Balcells (ALDE); Francisco Assis (S&D), Roberto Gualtieri (S&D), Ana Miranda (EFA/Greens), Ernest Urtasun (EFA/Greens) and Ignazio Corrao (EFDD) call on all Members of the European Parliament to attend the event entitled “Brazil’s Democracy at Risk – MEPs for the Rule of Law”, and to sign an appeal to express their commitment to democracy and to stand in solidarity with the social rights of the Brazilian people.

In a time of severe threat and risks of civilizational regressions, this event represents a manifesto for the rule of law, liberty and equality, while calling for the defeat of Bolsonaro in defence of the rights and democracy in Brazil.
